Officials confirmed that two French school children and a Ukrainian tourist had died, the BBC reported.
Three other people were seriously injured.
The avalanche occurred in the Les Deux Alpes area on a closed piste.
The Alps suffered from poor conditions at the start of the ski season but a large amount of snow has fallen in the last week – increasing the risk of avalanches.
The AFP said four other people have died in avalanches since the start of the year.
