The service from Heathrow to Newark Liberty International was moved to a remote part of the airport after landing yesterday afternoon (June 2).
The 206 passengers and 13 crew were then taken off the aircraft and their luggage was checked on the tarmac for potential bombs by sniffer dogs – a scene that was broadcast live on local US television.
Police at the airport later said that “nothing harmful” was found onboard the aircraft, which was then released back to the airline.
A BA spokesman said: “The aircraft has landed normally. Security checks will carried out as a precaution.
“We do not discuss details of operational security - the safety and security of our customers and crew is our number one priority.”
