Speaking to TTG yesterday, BA chief executive Alex Cruz said the airline will aim to offer 4G connectivity to 90% of fleet by 2019.
Customers will be able to browse the internet, access social media and stream video content from Netflix and YouTube, Cruz confirmed.
The BA boss revealed that two options would be available; “Simply Connect” and “Connect Plus”.
Simply connect will support basic web functions such as such as email and instant messages and will be priced from £4.99 whereas Connect Plus will offer faster connection speeds with video streaming services from £7.99, said Cruz.
Passengers may choose to access the internet for one hour, four hours or for the entire duration of the flight.
Additional news included plans for a new seat in Club World with direct aisle access for 2019. However, no details have yet been confirmed.
Part of the airline’s £400m upgrade of its Club World product includes an overhaul of the onboard dining experience.
From September a new restaurant-style dining service will begin in Club World, launching on flights between Heathrow and JFK before being extended across the long-haul network during 2018.
Cruz claimed that despite the upgrades the airline would not forget its “price sensitive” customers.
He said: “British Airways is a premium airline which flies to premium destinations and we are going to continue being a premium airline.
“However, we are also going to provide options for those passengers who are price sensitive – we are not giving up on that market without a doubt. But if customers want to spend more money, we will be there to provide them with a better experience.”
