It is thought that more than 30 mainly Chinese tourists have been taken to hospital after three balloons were brought down by strong winds in Cappadocia in the centre of the country.
The balloons made hard landings when their pilots were forced to abandon flights due to the wind strength, Turkish news sources report. Nine of those treated had broken bones, while the rest had minor injuries.
The Cappadocia region is famous for its underground cities and churches carved into volcanic rock formations and is a popular ballooning location.
There have been several accidents in recent years and only last month, a Danish tourist was killed when he fell from the balloon basket during a similar hard landing. Other deaths occurred in 2014 and 2013 following a crash and a collision between two balloons.
