The change, on 29 March, will free a very valuable Heathrow slot and will see Flybe maintain the current four frequencies a day to London under a government-supported Public Service Obligation contract.
Flybe will also base a second aircraft at the Cornwall airport and offer a new service to Amsterdam, flying six times a week. Flybe will rebrand to Virgin Connect later in 2020.
Flybe last week sought a bailout from the government over its Air Passenger Duty bill. Steve Double, St Austell and Newquay MP said he was disappointed at the loss of the Heathrow link, “but do accept the reasons for this”.
However, Flybe chief commercial officer Oli Byers said: “I’m pleased that these very positive changes mark the beginning of a stronger, more resilient service for our customers travelling to and from Cornwall.”
