Sir Roy McNulty, the chairman of the West Sussex airport said that statements made by Davies with regards to Heathrow’s air pollution were “frankly astonishing”.
McNulty was retaliating after Davies called criticism of the Airports Commission, which he led, “nonsense” and entirely misguided”, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The battle between the two airports over where new capacity should be added has moved on to the subject of air quality, and the potential impact on those living nearby.
In July this year the Airports Commission recommended that a new runway be built at Heathrow.
