British Airways has apologised after a “systems issue” affected a number of flights at Terminal 5, forcing some cancellations.
Hundreds of passengers were later told to return the following day due to the backlog, some taking to social media to complain of “complete chaos”.
BA took to Twitter to issue a statement shortly after 8.30pm: “We are experiencing disruption to our flights as a result of an issue with some of our IT systems.

“We are working hard to urgently resolve the matter and are sorry for the disruption to some customers’ travel plans.”
The carrier further apologised for its lack of communication, and was still addressing displaced passengers complaints on Thursday morning (July 19).
It is understood BA identified and fixed the issue by 9pm on Wednesday evening.
Heathrow airport said in a tweet the issue was preventing BA from issuing boarding passes.
