In an age when customer loyalty is as precious as gold dust, Saga Holidays could well possess the Midas touch.
“It’s phenomenal really,” exclaims the new managing director for tour operating, Jeannette Linfoot. “Seventy-five percent of Saga Holidays customers repeat book with us. I have never seen loyalty levels that high, ever, in my career. It’s fantastic.”
Linfoot should know – her CV includes 20 years worth of experience in the industry, at both Thomas Cook and Tui. It is this familiarity with the trade which perhaps explains her eagerness for Saga to work more closely with agents.
“We’ve got a great product which is fantastically compelling for the customer and it’s good for the agent. If someone is very loyal to their local travel agent and they book a Saga holiday, there’s a very high chance they will go back and rebook with that agent in the future. It works for both sides.”
And with the over-50s sector of the market boasting a customer-base the size of a small country, maintaining such loyalty is not something Saga can afford to take lightly. Overall, Saga currently has 11 million older consumers on its books, and last year saw enviable passenger numbers holidaying across its three travel brands – 35,000 with luxury operator Destinology, 45,000 through escorted tours specialist Titan Travel, and flagship provider Saga Holidays catering for 120,000 travellers, with all three brands overseen by Linfoot.
