Portugal product manager Rosa Melaragni said it was hoped that the new options in the Azores programme would attract a younger client base and families.
But she added with many of the new experiences being cultural as opposed to active, the additional choices should also prove popular with the programme’s current customer base.
Melaragni said: “The itineraries are very clearly designed so they would cover all age groups.
“However, the Azores are a bit different as they have a lot of outdoors activities that could attract a younger market. It is not just about hiking, you can do canyoning or other soft sports.
“We’ve also got the traditional island activities on offer like whale watching, which is the number one activity for anyone visiting.”
Melaragni added that only one new property had been included in the programme, the Furnas Boutique Hotel Thermal and Spa in Furnas, Sao Miguel Island.
One sample package for the Azores is the seven-night £1,235pp Whale and Dolphin Watching Holiday in Faial, which includes flights from Gatwick, B&B accommodation and three half-day whale-watching excursions.
Meanwhile, on the mainland Melaragni said the operator was hoping to show the more authentic side of Portugal with itineraries taking in the inland areas, including the mountain region, as well as the northern coastline.
She added: “This year, we have decided to focus on the unique experiences that make Portugal special, and our itineraries have been devised to uncover the authentic side of Portugal, delving into little-known areas and uncovering hidden gems that are often overlooked.
Melaragni said overall prices lead in at £470pp, based on two sharing three nights’ B&B accommodation at the Heritage Lisboa Plaza Hotel in Lisbon and includes flights for Gatwick.
However, this could yet change, she said, adding: “We will continue to add new and unusual itineraries to our website, drawing on our unsurpassed experience in – and love of – this beguiling country.”
