The remaining choice for women under the new booking system is to register under the titles Doctor or Professor – which leaves out a large section of the population.
Comments on social media slammed the airline for discriminating against women who are unmarried or who prefer to use a title other than Mrs. Others were concerned that their boarding pass would not match with their passport details.
One asked: “I’m wondering how in 2016 you can justify making title a compulsory question where I can only be a Mr or Mrs?”
Another asked: "Why should I choose a title I don’t identify with? Seriously? In 2016?”
Thomas Cook blamed the gaffe on a new booking system, saying it was “a temporary issue”. A spokesman told TTG: “It’s an entirely new system and it’s on a list of things to be fixed.”
