Lord Peter Snape, who served as the Labour MP for West Bromwich East from 1974 to 2001, became political advisor to the ITT in 2002 at the request of Chair Steven Freudmann, who described him as "simply irreplaceable".
"In the 24 years that followed, he became one of the best-known and best-loved ITT members," Freudmann told TTG on Friday (14 August).
"He hosted more than 100 events for us in the Houses of Parliament. To most members, he will be remembered for his wit and wonderful sense of humour."
However, Freudmann also noted Lord Snape's political acumen. "He had a very serious side, and at the 2016 ITT conference in Tel Aviv, he warned us all of the dangers of Brexit.
"He will be sadly missed by everyone at the institute. Peter is simply irreplaceable. All our thoughts are with his wife, Lynda, and his family."
The ITT said everyone at the institute would miss his advice and wonderful sense of humour.
Sarah Coombes, the current Labour MP for West Bromwich, was another to pay tribute. "Peter is still very well-loved in the area," she said.
"I’ve had more than a few conversations that went ‘Peter Snape? Best MP we ever had!’. He’ll be much missed."
Several ITT members took to social media to remember Lord Snape.
Travel Nomads Founder and ITT board member Danny Waine said: "Very sad news. Such a lovely guy, huge supporter of ITT, with a great sense of humour. Sending best wishes and my thoughts to Lynda, and Peter's family and friends. We'll miss him at ITT conferences and events."
InteleTravel Managing Director UK and Ireland, Tricia Handley-Hughes, said: "He was such a fun character and am sure he will be missed by many. Sending my condolences to Lynda and the family. RIP Peter."
The team at Dellar Davies, meanwhile, said they had long had the privilege of working behind the scenes with Lord Snape on ITT events.
"Whether welcoming guests, presenting awards to the next generation, or providing a prestigious setting for meaningful conversations, Lord Snape always gave his time with warmth and generosity," they said.
"His support helped create memorable experiences for countless members, partners and emerging talent, and his contribution to ITT's event programme will not be forgotten. Thank you, Peter. Our thoughts are with Lynda and all of his family and friends at this time."
