Stuart Gruber, Thomson Airlines’ director of flight operations said: “All of our finalists had some fantastic ideas, so it was a really hard decision selecting our overall winner.

“We felt that Pixie Dust was a great name for an aircraft that takes millions of families away every year and that it sums up the magic that our employees add to each customer’s holiday experience. We’re looking forward to trialling some of Amber’s suggestions on-board the new aircraft.”

Amber said: “My favourite part of the day was meeting the cabin crew and captain Stuart, as well as visiting the cockpit and getting to dress as a pilot. I’ve never been to Mexico, so I can’t wait to spend time with my family!”

New research by the airline asked children what their top gripes were when it came to flying, with being stuck in their seat, being bored, and their ears hurting topping the list.

When asked what they really want on a flight, more than 40% simply said unlimited chocolate and sweets, with the same amount requesting free toys, while around one in 10 said they would love the cabin crew to be dressed in fancy dress. Other ideas included an arts and crafts area (26%), a soft play area (24%), a slide inside the cabin (18%), a football pitch (10%), a dress up or make up room (9%), and a skate park (7%).
