All flights to the airport have been disrupted after nine protestors “locked themselves together” on the runway.
Black Lives Matter UK has confirmed to the BBC that it is responsible for the protest.
The airport has said it hoped to “resume operations as soon as possible” but said on Twitter this morning that the disruption was continuing.

Scotland Yard said its officers were “negotiating” with the group and were waiting for specialist resources to arrive to “unlock the protestors”, the BBC said.
No arrests are understood to have been made at this stage.
The airport is often used by bankers and City professionals due to its location near Canary Wharf. It was used by a record 4.3 million passengers last year.
