Around 500 people are understood to have been told to leave the airport while travellers have been warned to expect “long delays” by Transport for London, Sky News reports.
An alarm was reportedly raised at 4.11pm. London Fire Brigade has said “there are reports of a number of passengers feeling unwell”. There are understood to be around 26 patients at the scene whi are being treated for difficulty breathing. Two patients have reportedly been taken to hospital.
Specialist appliances have been sent to the scene. The ambulance service has also said that a Hazardous Area Response Team is attending the incident.
