Jo Richards, director of Tivoli Travel, which specialises in weddings, golf breaks and family holidays among other trips, said it had always been her dream to open her own agency.
She launched the business – which is a member of Global Travel Group – from home in February, before “putting the feelers out” about available property in her town.
Richards has bought a former estate agents in Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, West Yorkshire, which she hopes to open in February, having had her offer on the property accepted.
She has a long history of working in travel, having managed a number of independent travel companies. She also previously worked at Carson Wagonlit in business travel, among other roles.
Richards said: “My partner Mark Haigh and my family have been hugely supportive with my plans.
“In early October I put an offer in on the premises – I just thought ‘sod it, if it doesn’t work I’ll rent it out’.
“But I am confident it will work; I have been in the town for a long time and lots of people know me.”
Richards said she will employ another member of staff – on a part-time basis to start with – to help her in the new shop.
She has also enquired about hiring a graduate from Huddersfield University to help primarily with social media, and will organise a launch day with local media.
