Each property has been independently verified against recognised sustainability standards. EasyJet holidays has shifted its core sustainability metric to focus on the percentage of outbound customers staying in certified hotels, in a bid to prioritise behaviour change rather than just expanding supply.
In the past year, easyJet holidays has seen a 21% increase in the number of customers choosing to stay in a Certified Sustainable hotel, and customers choosing Certified Sustainable hotels report customer satisfaction scores 4.5 percentage points higher than average, demonstrating that more sustainable choices can also enhance the overall holiday experience.
Over the past 12 months, easyJet holidays has delivered Global Sustainable Tourism Council aligned training to more than 100 hotel partners.
To help customers make informed choices, the tour operator has enhanced visibility of certified properties through a dedicated Certified Sustainable deals page; improved certification filters across its website; and trade portal and targeted engagement with high volume hotel partners to accelerate certification progress.
Matt Callaghan, Chief Operating Officer at easyJet holidays, said: “As a leading tour operator, we have a responsibility not only to offer more sustainable choices, but to help more customers choose them.
“We’re demonstrating that more sustainable travel is becoming increasingly mainstream and that sustainability and quality can go hand in hand.
“While we’re proud of the progress we’ve made, we’re focused on going further by continuing to invest in our hotel partners, building industry capability and making it easier for customers to make informed choices.”
The growth of easyJet holidays’ Certified Sustainable collection forms part of its Environmental, Social and Governance strategy, Holiday Better, which aims to make more sustainable holidays mainstream.
