The South American carrier – created through a merger between Chilean Lan airlines and the Brazilian Tam Airlines – flew a trio of South American services yesterday (May 5) with routes from Sao Paulo–Guarulhos to Santiago, Sao Paulo-Guarulhos to Brasília and Santiago to Lima.
The line also announced bookings had been opened for its São Paulo to Johannesburg service beginning in October.
The route will be operated using a Boeing 767 aircraft with 191 economy seats and 30 spaces in premium business.
In addition, Latam will change its branding at 13 airports including Bogota, Madrid, Miami and JFK with new signage at check-in counters, baggage tags and redesigned VIP lounge.
"Today, a new chapter begins in the history of Latin American and global aviation,” said Latam chief executive Enrique Cueto. “Latam Airlines will offer clients more than a new brand, it will offer a new travel experience.
“The Latam brand will simplify and improve the travel experience for all our passengers. While the changes will be made gradually over the coming years, the benefits will be immediate.”
Roberto Alvo, senior vice-president international, business and alliances of Latam Airlines Group, added: “We will continue with our preparation in order to offer a first-class product with great connections for passengers who want to travel between South Africa and Latin America, where the group offers an unparalleled network of destinations."
